Foggy Exploration with Alyna & Ishkhan

We’ve been having some unpredictable and unseasonably warm weather in Toronto so when I woke up to a warm foggy day last Thursday I put out a call to action!
Why not take advantage of this opportunity? Do you know what fog machines and their liquids cost?
Luckily, Alyna and Ishkhan came to the rescue! They responded to my facebook post and we set off on a foggy day adventure.

The fog had started to move by that point so we went to the Bluffs where we hoped the fog would still be thick; and was it ever. You could barely see the towering rocks, everything felt so quiet and eerie, no horizon in sight yet there was something romantic about it.

We took advantage of the low tide and I asked them if they wouldn’t mind taking some photographs for me. I loved the way her hair and his hat pop with monochromatic view of the lake. It really was a fun day.

What was unique about this process for me was there it was completely on a whim. I didn’t tell them what to wear or where we were going, we only decided after getting in the car. We got to the location and just went with it. I’m really hoping to do more of these soon, Lets go out and shoot!

(Also, we happened upon this super photographic pupper who kept posing for the camera. I love him.)

Ria & Joe | Wedding Preview

I had a blast capturing RIa & Joe’s big day and I couldn’t wait to share these with you guys. It’s been a hectic week but I finally had time to edit so here are some of my favourites.

The last few weddings we’ve had to worry about rain but luckily it wasn’t too heavy so we were still able to get photos outside. PLUS we found this awesome covered bridge perfect for shelter & photos, thanks to the lady we met in the forest who assured us it was worth the muddy trek! Boy, was she right!  We also lucked out when the Embassy Grand in Bolton has this absolutely beautifully lit room where we got to take more photos of the bridal party.

It was a perfect day, I don’t ever think I’ve ever had that much fun or laughed so hard.
Thank you Ria & Joe for making me feel like family and trusting me to capture your special day!

Bob, Jess & Dylan | Surprise Family Session

When Bob and I were recently shooting a wedding together, he mentioned that Jess’ 40th birthday was coming up (how could I forget! It’s a day before mine!) and he wanted to surprise her with a family shoot! The hardest part about being a photographer is that you rarely have any photos of yourself with family because you’re usually the one behind the camera. I was so excited when he asked me, I couldn’t wait for the day!

We met at the Glen Rouge Campground entrance of The Rouge Park in Pickering and set down the trail. It was the perfect day, despite the sun being very bright and hot, we had a canopy of trees providing us with shade to keep us out of the heat and nice lighting for our photos.

It was such a treat to spend the afternoon with these three, here are some of my favourites from our shoot.

Aren’t they just adorable? Gosh, I love what I do and I’m so lucky that I get to call this work. Thank you Bob, Jess and Dylan for letting me photograph your beautiful family! Happiest of birthdays Jess!

David & Samantha | Wedding Preview

I’ve known Sam & Dave for a few years now and I was so excited when they asked me to shoot their wedding. They tied the knot last Saturday at Black Creek Pioneer Village in Toronto, ON with a beautiful outdoor ceremony and rustic reception. They had been calling for rain all day but it held off until later in the night and they day ended up being just perfect.

I don’t think I’ve ever had that much fun at a wedding! As a Green Bay Packers Fan, Sam surprised Dave with his favourite New England Patriot’s themed garters. During the reception, Sam’s mom surprised everyone with her version of Will Smith’s ‘Getting [Twiggy] With It’. The day was filled with so many more surprises, laughter, tears and so much love!

The (not so) Terrible Twos!

Isaac turned two this month so we had a mini shoot to capture this little ball of energy! I stayed still for about 5 minutes and then all hell broke loose (my favourite). I don’t like using flash photography for super little ones as it generally upsets them but I thought I might try this time.

As you can see I tried setting up some speedlights in two Westcott Apollo softboxes but since he was running around I put the flash directly on the camera, turned it away from him and let it bounce off the wall/ceiling behind me. The curious little thing laughed every time it fired, he loved it so much he began to ham it up in front of the camera for some most excellent results!

Finally sitting still for just a moment. Nikon D800 & Tamron 24-70 2.8, on camera flash firing off the wall behind me for some nice even lighting.

Tickle time of course! Nikon D800 & Tamron 24-70 2.8, on camera flash bouncing off the ceiling for the beautiful catch light in his eye.

I always try and get the catchlight in the eye, there’s something that just adds a bit more life to the images, it still might be a decent shot without it but angling the light so you get that beautiful reflection makes the world of difference in a portrait.

Delgado Family Portraits

Holy moly, time flies! Between holiday and family portrait sessions, working in retail and family dinners every weekend in December, I was finally able to catch up on some editing! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a great New Year!

Here are a few of my favourites from my last Holiday session of the season. I had an amazing time photographing Leandra and her family, the boys loved the camera and the sound of the shutter. I think that’s my favourite part about photographing kids, they’re not self-conscious yet so their expressions are genuine.

Doing in-home sessions can be tough because unless you’re lucky enough to visit the home before hand you’re going in blind as to layout, space and lighting. I bring portable lighting to my in-home sessions in case we don’t have enough window light but luckily we had a beautiful bay window to lighting the room.

Well that’s all for now guys but stay tuned cause there’s lots more coming soon! I got some neat gifts for Christmas that I can’t wait to try out and share my results with you!
